Louise Cary: Meredith, tell us about the Diane Arbus installation.
Meredith Reiss:The Diane Arbus exhibition Constellation opened on June 5th at the Park Avenue Armory. It is an immersive installation of over 450 photographs printed by Neil Selkirk. Selkirk is a photographer himself, as well as the only person authorized by the Estate to print from Arbus’s negatives, which he has done since her death in 1971. In 2011, LUMA Arles founder Maja Hoffmann acquired Selkirk’s complete set of printer’s proofs, which is what we see on display in this exhibition.
“Reflecting on the challenge of faithfully printing Arbus’ work, Neil Selkirk recalls: “[Hers] looked like pictures that everybody knew were the truth, whereas all the pictures on museum walls looked like pictures they knew had been manipulated.” — Neil Selkirk (Vogue, June 11, 2025)
Louise Cary: What’s special about this exhibition?
Meredith Reiss:Prior to joining Crozier, I was the collections manager for the Department of Photographs at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for over a decade. The Met is also the home of Diane Arbus’s archive. Arbus was a New Yorker, many of her images were made here, and all of the photographs in this exhibition were printed in New York. This exhibition is coming home in many ways, and a convergence of worlds for me. When this opportunity came across my desk I was thrilled to be able to step back into the photography world and partner with LUMA Arles and the Park Avenue Armory on this exhibition.
Louise Cary: How did this project come about?
Meredith Reiss:Crozier was recommended to LUMA Foundation by a long-standing client here in New York. The art world is very interconnected and reputation is everything, so it was nice to have another connection point.
Louise Cary: What did this project involve?
Meredith Reiss:We worked closely with LUMA’s registrar and production team and the Armory production team. The volume of artworks and short timeframe meant we needed an art handling crew of ten, led by Ian Rogers from our New York operations team. The crew did all the condition checks and installation, and I’m pleased to say it all went smoothly. Our colleagues at LUMA and the Armory were extremely well organized and great to work with.
Louise Cary: What’s coming up next?
Meredith Reiss:The exhibition is open through August 17th, and then Crozier will be de-installing the show. For anyone who loves photography I highly recommend making a trip to the Armory. See more information here.
