Tell us about the upcoming edition of the Independent fair in New York in May? What are the trends you are seeing more broadly?

Independent always provides an opportunity to be on the inside track of artists who are on a career rise and will ultimately grace the museum and biennial circuit in the coming years. This May, we’ll see more than twenty five solo New York debuts, presented by galleries hailing from Athens, London, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, and even San Sebastian, Spain. We also now study the market of approximately 1000 works that come to us each fair by 110+ artists each spring, making our pre fair report accessible to those that subscribe. The pre and post fair market reports published by Independent are a great way to find out more about pricing trends, artists entering the museum space and insights to the larger market’s new themes.

Crozier and Independent have collaborated since 2020. What do you look for in a logistics partner?

Crozier’s global footprint makes them an ideal partner as we have galleries exhibiting from many different countries. Crozier’s partnership has been invaluable in supporting Independent during a time of great evolution for the galleries as they confront shipping challenges due to the global pandemic and climate change. The more we can consolidate shipments the better as it reduces the carbon emissions associated with transportation. Having a logistics partner that can cater to all shipping and storage needs makes the experience more seamless.

We are so grateful for their support to the galleries, from tangible advice to ship smartly and consolidate their works by city vs gallery, and especially in so generously supporting those most impacted by the LA/wildfires crisis, by providing a free shuttle service to New York for Independent this spring.

I’m also personally very proud of the work we do around research with Crozier, particularly the New York Art Market Report with leading arts economist Claire McAndrew, which was the first and only of its kind to look at the collecting data of New Yorkers.
